Baptism
Buried With Christ…
Baptism is one of the most beautiful & meaningful moments in the life of the church.
Baptism is not about tradition and it’s not about us. It’s about Jesus! It’s about His saving work, His grace, and His claim on our lives.
AND RAISED TO NEW LIFE!
What is Baptism?
-
Baptism is a command. Jesus Himself calls every believer to be baptized. In Matthew 28:19–20, the risen Christ says, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.” Baptism is part of how we publicly obey Jesus. It’s not optional for disciples—it’s our first step of following Him in faith.
-
Baptism is a reveal of the seal. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit seals us when we believe. Ephesians 1:13 says, “In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed.” That sealing—our adoption, forgiveness, and new identity—happens at the moment of salvation. But baptism reveals it. It’s the outward declaration of an inward reality. We’re not saved by these waters; we’re showing the salvation Christ has already accomplished in this person’s life.

Baptism is a symbol. It’s like an acted-out sermon. When someone goes under the water, it pictures being united with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection. Then we go and walk in the newness of life. Romans 6:4 says, “Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.” This moment preaches the gospel visually.

Baptism is a family celebration. Jesus tells us there is joy in heaven when one sinner repents. So when we baptize someone, we are joining the celebration of heaven and welcoming a new brother or sister into the church family. So, baptism is a moment for rejoicing and celebrating the work of Jesus in someone’s life.
